Island of the Gods
Bali’s popularity as a holiday and travel destination is unmatched. It’s a favourite with European students on their gap year, Australians looking for a cheap place for revelry, and regional tourists looking for a cheap but beautiful getaway. Despite massive tourism however, the island has retained its charm and authenticity.
When we visited, it was not difficult to avoid ‘tourist traps.’ We found the quiet beach-side village of Ahmed, with its incredible fresh seafood and tranquil views of the Bali Sea. We also hid within the serene forest just outside Ubud, in the spectacular Amori Villas, built into the side of a tree covered valley.
