Parador de Ronda and Soho Boutique Palacio San Gabriel

Parador de Ronda is the perfect place to enjoy the sunset while sampling tapas. To feel like Spanish rural royalty however, book a night in the Palacio San Gabriel…

During out short visit to Ronda, we stayed in a lovely boutique hotel, the Palacio San Gabriel. We had also considered the Parador de Ronda, but decided in favour of the Palacio San Gabriel in the end. Nevertheless, we got to enjoy both.

Parador de Ronda

A really great place for tapas in Ronda is the Parador de Ronda. This Parador sits on the edge of the El Tajo Gorge, overlooking the canyon that fans out into the countryside. The view from the Parador de Ronda is truly one of the most spectacular views I’ve enjoyed.

Even if you are not staying in the Parador de Ronda, you can still enjoy the great panorama. The restaurant at the Parador does a lovely tapas selection, perfect for a late afternoon snack. After having wandered around all day in the El Tajo Gorge, we decided to relax with a glass of cava in the Parador’s restaurant.

The Andalusian sun shone into the gorge, casting it in a beautiful golden glow. We sat, cool and comfortable in the shade of the terrace, enjoying our chilled cava and delicious snacks.

Definitely not to be missed is the Salmorejo. The tapas portion came served in a martini glass (how quaint). I really love this traditional Andalusian summer soup. It’s richer than a gazpacho and mixes the smokiness of Serrano ham with the sweetness of cider. It is the perfect dish for summer.

We took out time here, enjoying our “meze” as the sun slowly sank over the horizon. As it did so, the buildings around the gorge came to life with light, and brought a feel of festivity to the mountain city of Ronda.

Soho Boutique Palacio San Gabriel

I loved the decor and charm of the Palacio San Gabriel. The hotel is set in an 18th Century mansion, and it feels just like it too. There is nothing modern about the interior. From the moment I stepped into the hotel, I was transported back in time.

I loved the elegant antique furniture, the decorated Moorish tiles and the general feeling of authenticity in the air.

The receptionist offered us a room on the ground floor. At first, I was a little disappointed since I would have preferred a room on a higher floor. But my doubts were blown aside when I set foot into the suite.

The beautiful painted bathroom tiles, so typical of the south of the Iberian peninsula

It was nice and airy, with a four poster bed in the middle, and a little sitting area in front. I also loved the alcoves in the wall which were filled with flowers and books. I really felt like I was in the bedroom of a Spanish princess.

We unfortunately did not get any time to relax in and enjoy the sitting area of the Palacio San Gabriel

The bathroom was also quite large and mostly made of marble. It felt opulent and charming at the same time. The painted tiles definitely gave it a strong Andalusian feel.

I really enjoyed our stay in the Palacio San Gabriel. Not only was it a lovely hotel, it was also right in the centre of Ronda’s heart. From here, it was only a few minutes’ walk to the famous bridge and all the other main attractions in Ronda’s old town.

We would wholeheartedly recommend checking out both the Parador de Ronda and the Palacio San Gabriel if you are visiting Ronda. Both are fantastic hotels and have contributed much to our overall experience in Ronda.
